The largest thermal complex in the Alps
Leukerbad is the largest thermal complex in the Alps. Nearly 3.9 million litres of thermal water rise here every day, at temperatures reaching 51 °C, at the foot of limestone walls several hundred metres high.
Three public establishments share the springs: the Leukerbad Therme, the Walliser Alpentherme & Spa and Therme 51°. You bathe outdoors, in the steam, with the Gemmi pass overhead.
The resort sits at 1,411 metres at the end of a side valley, and there is no catching up with the last postbus. It is a drive people enjoy — though not always in their own car, and rarely on the way home.
