A zoo born of three brothers, and Komodo dragons
Servion zoo opened on 15 June 1974, founded by three Bulliard brothers — a watchmaker, a restaurateur and a mason — determined to give animals space close to their natural habitat. Fifty years on, more than two hundred animals of some sixty species live on six hectares at the forest's edge.
Next door, the bird park opened in 1979 became the Tropiquarium in 2003: home to Komodo dragons, the largest lizards in the world, and to penguins — fifteen minutes from Lausanne.
Families come with a pushchair, a bag and tired children for the journey home. The postbus is rare on Sundays, and the car park fills early.
