Its name, recorded in the 13th century as Paudais, Poudaix or Poudays, simply means marsh. It long depended on Lutry, then on Pully, and only obtained its own authorities in 1721. Wine-growing until the 20th century, all that remains are the communal vines of Saint-Maire, six thousand square metres. Its coat of arms is a pun: pau, in the local dialect, means rooster — the nickname of its inhabitants.
