A zoo born in 1974 of three brothers, and Komodo dragons
Servion zoo opened on 15 June 1974. Behind it were three Bulliard brothers — a watchmaker, a restaurateur and a mason — determined to give animals space close to their natural habitat. Fifty years on, more than two hundred animals of some sixty species live on six hectares at the forest's edge.
Next door, the bird park opened in 1979 became the Tropiquarium in 2003: it is home to Komodo dragons, the largest lizards in the world, and to penguins — fifteen kilometres from Lausanne.
People come as a family, with a pushchair, a bag and tired children on the way back. The postbus is infrequent and the car park fills up on Sundays: exactly the day you would rather be dropped at the gate and collected at closing time.
