Audrey Hepburn lived here for thirty years, and rests under a cherry tree
Audrey Hepburn chose this village of six hundred people to live the last thirty years of her life. She settled here in 1963, at "La Paisible", an 18th-century manor, and raised her sons far from film sets. Neighbours remember an ordinary mother who walked her dogs and stopped to chat.
She died in January 1993 and rests in the village's small cemetery, under a cherry tree: a plain stone cross, no epitaph, just two dates — 1929-1993. In 2012 her sons gave the municipality a bust, set on the square that bears her name. Visitors come from all over the world, including coaches from Japan.
The village is ten minutes from Morges and the cemetery has no car park. We drop you at the gate, wait as long as needed, and take you back — this is not the kind of visit you make while watching for a bus.
