In the Middle Ages Boussens was a fief of the barony of Cossonay. A local noble family held the feudal rights in the 14th and 15th centuries, then died out in the male line; in 1581 the land passed to the de Saussure family, who kept it until 1798. The oldest part of the château may date from the late 15th century, but its present appearance comes from the alterations ordered by Antoine de Saussure around 1670.
