The station is called Cossonay, but it stands here
It is a small injustice of railway history: Cossonay-Penthalaz station carries the name of the town opposite, while standing on Penthalaz land. Yet it was the opening of the Bussigny-Yverdon line, on 7 May 1855, that launched the village: some twenty trains already stopped there.
Saint-Martin church dates from 1228, the year the village appears as a parish centre; in the Middle Ages it came under the lordship of Cossonay. The plague struck in 1565, 1566 and 1613, a fire destroyed part of the village in 1839, and its people were such keen supporters of the Vaud Revolution of 1798 that they planted two liberty trees.
The station is below, the town of Cossonay above, and the funicular does not run at night. Between the two, and out to the farms on the plain, that is us.
