A village born on the edge of the monks' estate
In the 13th century it was monks who worked this land: that of the abbey of Montheron, on which Froideville depended both spiritually and temporally before the Reformation. Gradually, lay settlers came to live on the edge of the estate — and that is exactly where today's village stands.
The name is recorded in 1284 as Frigida Villa, the cold farmstead. The municipality reaches south-east into the vast Bois du Jorat, and has close to two thousand seven hundred inhabitants today.
