A seigneurial château turned school, dairy and wine press
The château de Morrens was built between 1686 and 1696 by Marc Antoine de Saussure, lord of the place. Its story takes an unexpected turn in 1811: the municipality bought it from an investor, Daniel Bossard — not to admire it, but to house the school, the dairy and the communal wine press. A manor turned utility building is a very Vaudois outcome.
Fully restored in 1985 by the architect Roland Messmer, it now houses the municipal administration. The village itself is recorded from 1147, its church in 1228 in the cartulary of the bishopric of Lausanne; Morrens and Montheron were united into a Protestant parish on 19 December 1538.
Morrens also includes the hamlet of Les Biolettes, with farms scattered between the fields. The bus serves the village, not the outlying houses — that is where we go.
