A village won from the forest, a municipality only since 1823
Savigny did not exist: the forest had to be cleared to make it. The clearing of the Jorat began in the 12th century, and the name appears in 1228 in the Lausanne Cartulary, as Savinie.
The land had long been settled, but remained attached to Lutry until the 19th century: a Grand Council decree of 17 May 1823 made Savigny a municipality in its own right, with the separation signed on 22 March 1825. The forests that gave it birth appear on its coat of arms, drawn in 1923.
